OUR BAND COULD BE YOUR LIFE
US author Michael Azerrad is one of the most respected music journalists of all time, having penned two of the most influential music texts of the modern era: Our Band Could Be Your Life – a dissection of the careers of 13 influential underground rock bands of the 80s and early 90s, including Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Minutemen, Sonic Youth and Fugazi – and the acclaimed Nirvana biography Come As You Are. He’s also written for a myriad of esteemed music publications such as Rolling Stone, Spin and Mojo. Michael will primarily discuss the tenets raised in Our Band Could Be Your Life, and how the DIY approach utilised by many of those bands still has relevance today, as well as recounting lessons he’s gleamed from his time spent with some of the most important songwriters and musicians in the history of the form – this keynote speech is bound to be thought-provoking and inspirational in equal measure.
